The negative space in this self portrait is the black area. The positive area is the head with all of the strange non-human colours. The colours in this work of art are dark and gloomy. The colours consist of blacks, grays, whites, and a little bit of orange and red. The dull colours show what Picasso never often did in his paintings. Therefore I think that's why it made its mark on history.
